Evaluate the need for dosage adjustments when regularly administering within one hour of certain foods that may affect SYNTHROID absorption. Euthyrox (levothyroxine) is used to treat hypothyroidism and to treat or prevent goiter. Tirosint is used for hashimoto’s disease, hypothyroidism, after thyroid removal, myxedema coma … It may take several weeks before your body starts to respond to Synthroid. Your child’s dose needs may change if the child gains or loses weight. SYNTHROID is contraindicated in patients with uncorrected adrenal insufficiency see Warnings and Precautions (5.4). Report Problems to the Food and Drug Administration

If so, advise them to stop biotin supplementation at least 2 days before assessing TSH and/or T4 levels. DRUG INTERACTIONS

SYNTHROID® (levothyroxine sodium) tablets, for oral use is a prescription, man-made thyroid hormone that is used to treat a condition called hypothyroidism in adults and children, including infants. It is meant to replace a hormone that is usually made by your thyroid gland. Generally, thyroid replacement treatment is to be taken for life. SYNTHROID should not be used to treat noncancerous growths or enlargement of the thyroid in patients with normal iodine levels, or in cases of temporary hypothyroidism caused by inflammation of the thyroid gland (thyroiditis). The recommended starting daily dosage of SYNTHROID in adults with primary, secondary, or tertiary hypothyroidism is based on age and comorbid cardiac conditions, as described in Table 1. For patients at risk of atrial fibrillation or patients with underlying cardiac disease, start with a lower dosage and titrate the dosage more slowly to synthroid belching avoid exacerbation of cardiac symptoms.

Pituitary Thyrotropin (Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone, TSH) Suppression

Stop biotin and biotin-containing supplements for at least 2 days before assessing TSH and/or T4 levels. SYNTHROID may reduce the therapeutic effects of digitalis glycosides.

Assess compliance, dose of medication administered, and method of administration prior to increasing the dose of SYNTHROID see WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS and Use In Specific Populations. Myxedema coma is a life-threatening emergency characterized by poor circulation and hypometabolism and may result in unpredictable absorption of levothyroxine sodium from the gastrointestinal tract. Use of oral thyroid hormone drug products is not recommended to treat myxedema coma. Administer thyroid hormone products formulated for intravenous administration to treat myxedema coma. SYNTHROID is indicated in adult and pediatric patients, including neonates, as a replacement therapy in primary (thyroidal), secondary (pituitary), and tertiary (hypothalamic) congenital or acquired hypothyroidism.

Foods containing soy and cottonseed meal can make Synthroid less effective. Walnuts, grapefruit juice, and dietary fiber can also make Synthroid less effective.
